North Kashmir at its quietest
Lolab is a Himalayan sub-valley in Kupwara district, roughly 114–115 km northwest of Srinagar. Its entrance lies about 9 km north of Kupwara town, while the valley itself stretches for approximately 24–25 km through forests, orchards, pastureland and dozens of villages.
The Lahwal stream, also called Lalkul, flows through the valley and receives water from tributaries descending from the surrounding hills. Deodar forests, ancient springs, walnut and fruit orchards, village paths and open meadows give Lolab a very different character from Kashmir's busier resort destinations.
